The Wines

Cookoothama

Cookoothama is made from estate grown fruit from the family’s vineyards in the King Valley and Darlington Point. Cookoothama “cooka-a-tharma” is the name of the family’s vineyard at Darlington Point on the Murrumbidgee River and is the aboriginal word meaning ‘fertile land’. The two hands on the label represent the people who have lived and cultivated the land spread along the banks of the Murrumbidgee River transforming it into the prosperous land it is today.

King Valley, Riesling

This Riesling is sourced from our Frasca’s Lane Vineyard in Victoria’s cool climate King Valley. Fresh, lifted aromas of florals, musk and passionfruit over star anise spice. On the palate, lively, crisp flavours of lemon and lime zest with floral, passionfruit and pineapple notes.

King Valley, Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

The Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from our Frasca’s Lane Vineyard in Victoria’s cool climate King Valley. Refreshingly crisp and zesty wine exhibiting fresh aromas of gooseberry and lime entwined with tropical fruit flavours. On the palate, crisp zesty lime flavours are balanced with vibrant citrus and passionfruit sherbet nuances.

Darlington Point, Chardonnay

This Chardonnay is sourced from our Cookoothama Vineyard on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point. Rich, toasty aromas of canned peach and rockmelon with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanillin spice. On the palate, complex flavours of ripe peaches and cream with lively citrus notes.

King Valley, Pinot Noir

This Pinot Noir is sourced from our Frasca’s Lane Vineyard in Victoria’s cool climate King Valley. Aromas of sweet red berry fruit with lifted game, herb and all spice notes. Rich and ripe flavours of red berries and spice with savoury, earthy tones and supple tannins. Enjoy with your favourite duck dish or soy and ginger glazed salmon.

Darlington Point, Cabernet Merlot

This wine is sourced from our Cookoothama Vineyard on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point. Lovely plum aromas infused with hints of spice, herbs and dark chocolate. A very stylish, well structured wine with an intense and concentrated palate of blackcurrant and mint with rich silky tannins and well integrated oak.

Darlington Point, Shiraz

The Shiraz is sourced from our Cookoothama Vineyard on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point. Complex aromas of ripe berry and spice with a hint of toasty oak. A full-bodied wine displaying elegant tannins and powerful fruit concentration with a well-structured palate of dark cherry and blackberry melded with earthy overtones and well-integrated oak.

Darlington Point, Basket Press Merlot

This limited release Merlot is sourced from our Cookoothama Vineyard at Darlington Point. It is our Winemaker’s baby, who insists on making this wine using the traditional French method of treading the grapes by foot – otherwise known as the “pigeage” method. Lifted aromas of ripe plum and cherry over earth and allspice. Elegant palate of ripe berry fruit with hints of earth and dark chocolate supported by well-integrated French oak and velvety tannins leading into a long, lingering finish.

Darlington Point, Botrytis Semillon (375ml)

This special dessert wine is sourced from our Cookoothama Vineyard in the Riverina and collected the Trophy at the 2006 Decanter World Wine Awards in London for Best International Dessert Wine under £10. Luscious concentrated palate of marmalade, apricot nectar and pineapple with well-balanced acid giving it length and structure.
